Tartaric Acid From Tamarind Leaves

Tartaric acid is a dibasic dihydroxy. It occurs in the form of colorless transparcent crystals or white, fine to granular cryshalline powder with an acid ic taste. Tartaric acid (2,3 Dhyrroxi butanitioc acid, 2-3 dihydroxy sucine acid. having chemical formula C4H6O62 C, exists as the dextro and levaboratory acid the  meso form (which is inactive owing to internal composition) and the recemic mixture (which commonly known as recemic acid) only dextrose form occurs normally in nature. the commercial product in the U.S. is the natural dextrortarory form (R-Rx, Rx)_ -  tartaric acid, (L (+) L tartaric acid. This enantimor occurs in grapes as its acid potassium salt (cream of tartare). In the fermentation of wine, this salt deposits in the vats; free crystallized tartaric acid was first  obtained from such fermentation residues by SCHEELES IN 1769. In Europe, south Africa and Japan, racemic tartaric acid also is produced commercially.
