Cold Roll Forming Of Z-Section & Other Section

The products of the rolling mills used as structural steel members are known as sections or shapes and are designated by the shapes of their cross sections. The regular sections are those for which there is a constant demand and are the most commonly used. The special sections are those that are required less frequently and consequently are rolled only by special arrangement. The choice of special sections should be avoided unless the quantity is large enough to warrent a rolling. The most commonly used sections are flange (W) sections, Angles, Tees, Zees, Channels etc. The shape of the various sections are indicated bt their names. We are giving here some sections for primilary introduction. I - Beams sections are obtainable from most of the rolling mills. A standard I-beam may be identified in this manner : 12" I 31.8 =/=. This abbreviation indicates that the section is a standard I-beam having s depth of 12 in. and weighing 31.8 lb. per line ft. on drawings the symbols for inches and pounds are omitted and the beam is indicated thus 12 I 31.8.
