Product Description

MANGANESE OXIDE AND MANGANESE SULPHATE [Eiri - 1515]

Manganese (II) sulphate is one of the most significant commercially important compound and is a conspicuous mineral based chemical industry. Madhya Pradesh is the biggest state in the country which ranks third in the value of mineral deposits including the manganese ore. Manganese  sulphate is almost pure white in the anhydrous state, the corresponding mono, tetra, penta and hepta hydrates are pink. Manganese (II) sulphate is readily soluble in water, but has a strongly negative solubility. The solids content of manganese sulphate solution saturated at 24oC is 39.3 wt %; at 100oC, the solid content drops to 26.2 wt %. The customary commercial product (technical grade) is the monohydrate, containing 29-30 wt % MnSO4.H2O. Manganese sulphate is produced either directly or by reaction of manganese (II) oxide (or manganese carbonate) with sulphuric acid or as a by-product from organic oxidation with MnO2. Until recently, the manufacture of hydroquinone (by oxidation of aniline) with MnO2 and H2SO4 was a major source of fertilizer grade manganese sulphate containing 78 wt%  manganese sulphate, but modern hydroquinone processes are based on either diisopropyl benzene/O2 or phenol and H2O2 (hydroquinone). Manganese sulphate is commercially one of the most important manganese products. It is the starting material for electrolytic manganese metal, electrolytic manganese dioxide, fungicides such as maneb and other manganese compounds  including manganese carbonate, manganese soaps (naphthenate, linolate & resinate all used as siccaties), and certain inorganic products. Manganese sulphate is also used in textile printing, & glass making, very significant in terms of volume in the use of manganese sulphate as fertilizer for manganese deficient soils, for example, in the vegetable and citrus growing areas. It is also valuable as a micro nutrient additive for animal feed.
