Putty And Water Proofing Paint

Common putty, as used by carpenters, painters and glaziers, in whiting mixed with linseed oil and other ingredients, to the consistency of dough. Plasters use a fine lime master that is called putty. Jewelers use a tin oxide for polishing, called putty powder or puts powder. In general, fillers & stoppers are paste-like materials, highly pigmented, used to fill surface imperfections (fillers) and to make good gross surface defects prior to painting operations (stoppers). A variety of non-setting materials such as mastics, sealants & putties, which are designed to stay flexible, can also be included in this class. Metal casement putty is generally similar to glazing putty but contain a small amount of fatty acid or sulphonated oil to improve the wetting characteristics and consequently the adhesion to the metal surface. Caulking compounds, putties and same cements have a boiled drying oil, usually combine with resins that act as the binder putty is the thick mixture of finally powdered calcium carbonate (whiting) and acid refined linseed oil which imparts good wetting and grinding characteristics. There are variegated types of putties for wood too. For glazing wood & filling holes and cracks on the surface, of timber or metal, a stiff paste of linseed oil and whiting is used. This composition is the traditional putty.
