Wettable Sulphur:

The earliest fungicides were inorganic materials like sulphur, lime-sulphur, copper and mercury compounds. Elemental sulphur has been recognized as fungicidal for at least 170 years. Hence, in 1803, the Royal Gardener Forsyth recommended the use of a sulphur spray against mildew on fruit trees. In the nineteenth century sulphur was increasingly employed against powdery mildew on fruit and later for control of powdery mildew on grapes. It may be applied as dusts or sprays and the more finely divided the sulphur, the more effective is the formulation against the disease. Ingeneral, wettable powders are manufactured for large number of pesticides among the significant over being Malathion (25%, 40%, 50%), Vindane (13%, 20%), etc. other pesticides which are formulated in water dispersible powders are, sulphur, endosulphan, zineb, etc. Like all dust powder preparation it is desirable to have a water-dispersible powder with good flowability. Flowability is influenced by the flawability of the carrier powder and the concentration of the toxicant. One of the most important desirable property of the water dispersible powders in wettability. It is primarily influenced by the type and concentration of the toxicant as well as the wetting agent used.
