Provision  of  drinking water supply, or in other  words  `piped' water  supply  to  urban and  rural  population,  constitutes  an important  aspect of developmental programmes in many  countries. Among several materials for pipes and fittings, plastics,  though of   recent  origin,  have  offered  vast   potentialities   both economical  and  technical, for exploitation by the engineers, architects  and builders of the plastic  materials,  polyethylene (low and  high density) and unplastic. With  their  many  advantages over conventional materials, plastics have revolutionized modern engineering, unlike steel  and copper,  plastic  materials do  not  corrode,  are much  lighter  and  cost  less.  This   is particularly  descriptive  of HDPE pipeline systems, now used extensively in europe. The USA and Japan for   conveying  water, corosive liquids, waste and  effluents, perform  better at  lower cost.
